The F-84 originated as a straight-winged Thunderjet.  The
Thunderstreak was supposed to be an evolutionary upgrade
but there were significant tooling and production issues which
resulted in greater design changes.  It became operational in May 1954
and remained in service for a decade.  The Thunderstreak required 7,500’ of
runway for takeoff on hot days.  See also the aircraft at Pima….
